Wakatu hops, formerly known as Hallertau Aroma, is a triploid New Zealand hop. It was commercialized in 1988 and renamed Wakatu in 2011. It is a cross between Hallertauer Mittelfrüher hops and a New Zealand male.
Wakatu hops provide a mild bitterness and floral, fresh, and tangy lime aromas. It is considered a dual-purpose hop that can be used throughout the boil, flameout, and dry hop. Additionally, Wakatu hops have a high beta acid content, ensuring exceptional flavor retention in beer.
It is often used for Lager, Pale Ale, Pilsner, and Belgian Ale styles of beer.
