Calculating the alcohol content of your beer is more than a simple curiosity: it is a key step in understanding your brew, checking that fermentation has progressed correctly, and keeping control over your intended style.

A reliable ABV estimate also helps you fine‑tune your recipes, compare different batches, and maintain consistency from one brew to the next. With just a few simple gravity measurements, you can quickly obtain an accurate value for both the alcohol level and the yeast’s attenuation.

Use our calculation tool:

Input data:

  • Original Gravity: enter the original gravity before pitching the yeast. If the value is expressed as 1.051, enter 51 in the calculator.
  • Final Gravity: enter the final gravity after fermentation. If the value is 1.012, enter 12 in the calculator.

Output data:

  • Alcohol content: this is the alcohol level excluding priming sugar*
  • Attenuation: this is the percentage of gravity points consumed by the yeast

*Important: if you use sugar to carbonate your beers, this adds density points to the beer and increases the final alcohol content.
