Your vessels may be equipped with European threaded valves (BSP), your pump with an American thread (NPT), your transfer hoses with quick‑connect fittings (Push‑Fit / John Guest), and your fermenter with professional Tri‑Clamp (TC) connections.

1. Why use adapters in brewing?
Using adapters meets three essential needs to optimize your brew day:
- Technological transition: Switching from a fixed and tedious system (threaded fittings) to a fast and hygienic system (such as Tri‑Clamp or Push‑Fit).
- International compatibility: Connecting American or Asian equipment (often NPT or MFL) to European plumbing standards (BSP).
- Modularity: Quickly detaching your flexible hoses from a vessel to connect them to a pump or a plate chiller without having to undo hose clamps.
2. The major families of adapters and their applications

A. Adapters for flexible hoses (Hose‑barb)
If you use classic flexible hoses (silicone, vinyl, EPDM) for wort transfers, you need to convert your male or female threads into barbed hose‑tails:
- BSP to hose‑barb: Allows you to screw a barbed fitting directly onto the outlet of a European 1/2" vessel valve.
- NPT to hose‑barb: Ideal for connecting a flexible hose to the threaded outlet of an American pump (such as imported magnetic pumps).
B. Tri‑Clamp (TC) to Threaded (BSP / NPT) adapters
Tri‑Clamp is the king of fermentation. To connect threaded accessories (temperature probes, valves, gas fittings) to your Tri‑Clamp ports (1.5", 2" or the mini 34 mm format), use these direct transitions:
- TC 1.5" or TC 2" to BSP: Essential for mounting European threaded accessories on the lid or valves of your conical fermenter (e.g., Brew Monk Unitank, Conicus Pro).
- TC 1.5" or TC 34 mm to NPT / BSP: Allows you to adapt small accessories or threaded CIP spray heads to your Tri‑Clamp vessel ports.
C. Adapters for instant quick‑connect fittings (Push‑Fit / John Guest)
For your beer dispensing lines or pressurized CO₂ circuits, semi‑rigid plastic tubing (typically 3/8") must connect directly to your threaded fittings:
- BSP to Push‑Fit: Allows you to screw a quick‑connect fitting onto your CO₂ regulators, keg couplers or cold‑water inlets/outlets using European threads.
- NPT or MFL to Push‑Fit: Designed to connect your beer or gas lines directly to American‑origin equipment (such as Kegland regulators or Duotight‑type connection valves).

Don’t forget the sealing of your threaded connections! Whenever you use an adapter with a threaded part (male or female in BSP or NPT), metal‑to‑metal contact alone is not enough to prevent micro‑leaks of wort or CO₂. For BSP threads, always use a flat silicone or rubber gasket at the bottom of the female thread. For NPT threads (tapered), apply 4 to 5 wraps of PTFE (Teflon) tape around the male thread in the tightening direction before assembly. This is the guarantee of a leak‑free and safe brew day!
