Rakau hops, formerly known as AlphAroma in the 80s, is a dual-purpose hop variety from New Zealand. It was re-released and named Rakau by the Hort Research Institute in 2007.
Rakau hops can be used in all hop additions throughout the brewing process. It brings specific aromas of stone fruits and figs; fresh orchard fruits, specifically apricot with some resinous pine needle characteristics are noted.
It is often used for American-style beers, such as IPAs, Pale Ales, and Lagers.
