Description
Compac CG™ is a tablet clarifier containing granular and semi-refined kappa carrageenan from the Eucheuma cottonii algae.
When added to boiling wort, kappa carrageenan strongly reacts with soluble proteins, particularly the proline-rich haze precursor fraction.
When the wort is cooled, the carrageenan-protein complex becomes unstable and precipitates out of solution, resulting in very clear wort.

Compac CG™ Dosage
A rate of 1 to 3g/hl is generally applied to this product.
Compac CG should be added 10 minutes before the end of the boiling period. Addition can be made directly into the wort or diluted in 10 times its volume of water.
Carrageenan is well established in the brewing industry as an important clarification aid. Originally, unprocessed seaweed of the species Chondrus crispus (or Lichen) was used successfully.
As the food industry’s interest in high kappa isomer species such as Eucheuma cottonii increased, so did availability and quality. Today, most carrageenan used in brewing comes from this species. Its role as the most cost-effective method of wort clarification is undisputed.
