A historic hop of the American craft beer movement, Columbus (a descendant of Nugget) was the first variety nicknamed "Super Alpha" due to its high alpha acid content.
Also known as "CTZ" (Columbus/Tomahawk/Zeus – a trio of similar hops), Columbus is mainly used as a bittering hop.
However, its aromatic profile — citrus, spice, and earthy notes — also makes it suitable as an aroma hop.
The 1kg format is ideal for brewpubs and small breweries.
