Northern Brewer is an all-purpose hop used mainly as a bittering hop. It is used in brown beers, Altbier and Kölsch.

The cones are a bit browner compared to the other varieties. One of the most important varieties in the Hallertau region, where excellent aromas are developed in the sunny climate.
