Spectrum BRU-1

BRU-1 hop is an American variety characterized by intense notes of freshly cut pineapple and white fruits. It is particularly valued for creating beers such as wheat beers, IPAs, Pale Ales, and NEIPAs.

This hop is an ideal choice for homebrewers looking to enhance their beers with strong pineapple aromas. Additionally, BRU-1 has been shown to improve haze stability in certain beer styles.

This hop stands out due to its exceptional beta acid content, which helps preserve the overall bitterness of the beer and maintain a harmonious balance of flavors over the medium to long term. In West Coast IPAs, where high bitterness is desired, it serves as a structural ally (alongside its remarkable aromas). Bru-1 pairs wonderfully with Loral, Chinook, and Citra varieties.

Spectrum, the Dry Hop revolution

Get all the alpha acids and aromatic compounds from hops without the vegetal matter. Maximum efficiency and guaranteed better yield!

SPECTRUM offers numerous advantages over hop cones and pellets.

Fully soluble at fermentation temperature, you won't lose beer.

SPECTRUM can fully or partially replace cones or pellets during Dry Hop.

Using Spectrum:

spectrum bru 1

1kg of Spectrum = between 5 and 8kg of pellets.

For homebrewing, this means 1g = between 5 and 8g of T90 hops.

A sachet of 20g therefore equates to 100g to 160g of standard hops.

It is perfectly possible to use Spectrum at 100%. However, if you're replicating well-calibrated recipes, Barth Haas recommends conducting dosage tests and using part of your Dry Hop with standard hops at a rate of 20 to 50%, relying on the ratio mentioned above to adjust your dosage. You can gradually move towards 100% usage.

As seen in the chart above, the ideal usage point of Spectrum is during secondary fermentation. The earlier you add it, the more you'll need to dose. Fruity aromas will stand out more. The later you use it, the less you need to dose, and the "green" hop aromas will be more prominent.

Note: This product is specifically intended for Dry Hop. Spectrum does not contain iso-alpha acids but does have non-isomerized alpha acids that, at high doses in late boil or Whirlpool, can enhance bitterness, especially in hazy beers where it is not desired.

Storage:

Barth Haas recommends storing the product between 2°C and 15°C, making the refrigerator ideal.

As 20g sachets are not resealable, we recommend planning a recipe where you'll use the entire product.

The manufacturer advises using the product within a year after its production date (printed on the sachet).

Advantages of Spectrum:

Beyond avoiding significant beer loss, Spectrum has other substantial advantages. Brewery tests have notably shown a drastically reduced risk of Hop Creep compared to the use of T90 pellets. This is due to the product's solubility and the absence of enzymes that restart fermentation.

Finally, Spectrum also reduces oxidation risks in highly hopped beers.

Unlike pellets and cones, this product eliminates oxygen presence. Spectrum ensures precise Dry Hop dosing without oxygen input.
