citra hops

Citra hops is a dual-purpose hop variety originating from the United States. It was developed by Gene Probasco (hop breeding company) in the 1990s. It was tested and approved by major breweries such as Sierra Nevada over many years. It was then made public and distributed in 2008. It is a cross between Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Tettnanger (US), Brewer’s Gold, and East Kent Golding hops.

Citra hops gets its name from its strong citrus character, due to its very high Myrcene level.

Citra hops brings intense bitterness and aromas of citrus and tropical fruits. Used at the end of the boil, hopstand, or dry hop, it will mainly bring notes of grapefruit, lemon, ripe mango, and pineapple. It also presents more subtle flavors of currants and blackberries.
