target hops

The Target hops are a dual-purpose hop variety, originating from the United Kingdom. They were created in 1992 by the Wye College of Agriculture. They are the result of a cross between the Northern Brewer hops and the Eastwell Golding hops. Despite some aromatic differences, they are also a cousin of the Challenger hops.

The Target hops provide a powerful bitterness and herbal, floral, earthy, and slightly lemony aromas. Used as a bittering hop, they give a good head retention and a good stability to the beer. Used as an aroma hop, they reveal notes of sage, rosemary and resin.

They are often used in British beers, such as bitter, pale ale, porter, stout and irish red ale. They can also suit lagers or saisons.
